Sharing knowhow in offshore wind construction

A2SEA wins Gode Wind 1 and 2 installation

In the first half of 2015, in the German part of the North Sea, A2SEA will start installing 97 Siemens 6 MW, 154m-rotor turbines from Siemens – representing a total capacity of 582 MW.

When completed, Gode Wind 1 and 2 will be the largest contiguous offshore wind farm area in Germany to date. The agreement is a strong signal that German offshore wind is back on the agenda – and prioritised, too. And it’s also an acknowledgement of A2SEA’s lengthy track record.

DONG Energy’s Managing Director in Germany, Trine Borum Bojsen, is enthusiastic about the project.

“We are looking forward to realising our biggest offshore wind farm project in Germany: Gode Wind 1 and 2. It is our biggest investment ever and will cement our leadership position in offshore wind. Up until 2020, we aim to install 6.5 GW of offshore capacity in Europe. On completion of Gode Wind 1 and 2, DONG Energy will have built approximately 3.5 GW of offshore wind.”

A2SEA will deploy the first of its secondgeneration offshore installation vessels, SEA INSTALLER, on Gode Wind 1 (330 MW) and Gode Wind 2 (252 MW). Both wind farms are expected to be fully operational during the second half of 2016.

Slightly smaller than the Gode Wind projects, but important nevertheless, is the work currently being performed by A2SEA’s project team, led by Tony Milward and Britta Finnich Henningsen.

The group is well underway with planning the installation project for Borkum Riffgrund 1, where SEA INSTALLER will start work this summer, working out of the port of Esbjerg.
