Kaj Lindvig resigned his position with A2SEA at the end of August, after 12 years with the company. Now, as Lindvig Consulting, he stands ready to deliver his wealth of experience to a wider audience.
September 1, 2001, was an important day for A2SEA. It was the day when Kaj Lindvig joined the newly established company as employee No. 5. And it marked the beginning of an amazing journey both for A2SEA and for Kaj.
Educated in commerce, Kaj has held a range of management positions in Danish companies. In 1995, he headed Semco Energi in Esbjerg, and was responsible for the merger of Semco Energi and Semco Marine when the two entities became Semco Maritime in 1998.
In his farewell speech for Kaj at a packed reception in August, Jens Frederik Hansen, A2SEA’s CEO, described his colleague as “a serious businessman” and one of the most important facilitators in the development and growth of A2SEA right from the beginning – even crediting him with helping the company to survive the often stormy conditions in the early pioneering years.
Jens Frederik wasn’t joking, either, when he called his former colleague “the human library for the offshore wind energy industry.” Kaj’s memory for sites, specifications, project plans and the way things went during any project you care to name is unmatched.
In fact, Kaj’s reputation extends far beyond A2SEA’s close circle. As far afield as Spain, Kaj has been called “Mr. Offshore Wind” by customers and competitors alike.
Part of this fame is the result of his active participation in the promotion of wind as a sustainable energy source. He has served as a long-standing board member at the Danish Wind Industry Association as well as Offshore Center Danmark (now known as Offshoreenergy.dk). Over the years, he has also been a popular speaker at national and international industry conferences and exhibitions.
Kaj has always been an appreciated and respected member of A2SEA’s staff, often displaying a keen sense of humor. Of course, there’s a darker side to Mr Offshore Wind, too. On rare occasions, both colleagues and suppliers have encountered flashes of temper, demonstrating a fiery spirit beneath his usually calm exterior.
Kaj’s resignation from A2SEA doesn’t come out of the blue, but represents an exit planned over the past two years together with the company’s management. It is born from a desire to try something new during the latter phase of his career. He is on the board of companies such as Steel Team in Hammelev, SubC Partner in Esbjerg and K2Management in Århus. Importantly, his love of hunting (when it’s going well) as well as golf (there’s still room to improve the handicap) can now find more time to unfold.
Today, A2SEA is still the largest operator in installation of offshore wind turbines, with over 1,000 turbines installed. A good portion of that success, it seems, is the result of this remarkable man’s vision, intelligence and sustained effort. Kaj continues with A2SEA as an external advisor, and we wish him the very best for the next phase of his career.
