Peter Schwartzbach’s recent one-month visit to the Far East, in connection with offshore wind developments in the region, certainly wasn’t his first Asian excursion for A2SEA. And most likely, it won’t be his last. Continue reading
SEA CHALLENGER’s main crane
We take a closer look at what is perhaps the most crucial piece of onboard machinery in offshore wind installation.
THE MOST IMPORTANT TOOL IN THE BOX
For an offshore wind installation vessel, a main crane is like a carpenter’s hammer: the most important tool in the toolbox. There, however, is where the comparison stops, because SEA CHALLENGER’s main crane is one of the most up-to-date cranes in offshore wind, capable of feats far in excess of anything you can do with a hammer. Continue reading
All set – ready to go
All eyes are on Borkum Riffgrund 1, the 78-turbine DONG Energy wind farm for which both A2SEA and CT Offshore have been busily preparing. Located 37 kilometres to the north of the island of Borkum, the first monopile foundation for Borkum Riffgrund 1 wind farm was installed on 21 January 2014. Now, with foundations and transition pieces in place, it’s time for the teams at A2SEA and CT Offshore to swing into action, executing plans that have been carefully laid over many months. 2ND Generation Vessels: Hype or hallelujah?
Often, new technology doesn’t live up to expectations – and there have been plenty of expectations around second-generation vessels such as SEA INSTALLER. Has this much-awaited vessel delivered on its promises? Continue reading
Optimised deck design
Standardised, optimised layout brings slew of benefits
By Glen Andresen
In the wind turbine construction business, few things are as important as deck layout. Get it right and projects can run more smoothly and safely. Get it wrong and you’re likely to waste time and money through inefficiencies that just seem to compound one another – not to mention putting life and limb at risk. Continue reading
A warm welcome!
By Mette Jørvad Niess, Senior Manager, Head of Communication & Marketing
SEA INSTALLER’s much anticipated sister vessel, SEA CHALLENGER, arrived in Esbjerg on May 17 to be greeted by a crowd of A2SEA staff, clients, local dignitaries, press and many other maritime enthusiasts. Continue reading
Zero harm: Safety supplier days
By Kirsten Bank Christensen, Vice President, Group HSEQ
Safety is our license to operate – and there can be no compromises when it comes to ensuring that our people return safely from their work every single day. But getting safety right takes sharp focus, meticulous planning and a carefully coordinated effort from everyone involved. And that’s where A2SEA’s Safety Supplier Days make a real difference. Single blade installation takes the lead
By Hans Schneider
Longer blades, tougher logistics
With the notable exception of Siemens Wind Power’s 3.6 MW turbines, the blades of today’s offshore wind turbines are typically pre-assembled into a single rotor component before being loaded onto a vessel and sailed out to their final destination. Continue reading
A2SEA wins Gode Wind 1 and 2 installation
In the first half of 2015, in the German part of the North Sea, A2SEA will start installing 97 Siemens 6 MW, 154m-rotor turbines from Siemens – representing a total capacity of 582 MW.
When completed, Gode Wind 1 and 2 will be the largest contiguous offshore wind farm area in Germany to date. The agreement is a strong signal that German offshore wind is back on the agenda – and prioritised, too. And it’s also an acknowledgement of A2SEA’s lengthy track record. Continue reading
